The American University of Kurdistan (AUK)  is a public, not-for-profit special status, university in Duhok, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It was founded in 2014 by Masrour Barzani, an alumnus of the American University in Washington, D.C., to provide comprehensive liberal arts education and to encourage cross-disciplinary research in the region.

Founded as a not-for-profit higher learning institution in 2014, The American University of Kurdistan (AUK) aims to mold the next generation of leaders through challenging coursework, up-to-date methodologies, and exceptional faculty. Located in the Duhok Governorate of Iraqi Kurdistan, the university is fast becoming the region’s preeminent institution of higher education.

About College Departments

College of Arts and Sciences

Students in the College of Arts and Sciences receive broad training in the humanities as well as social and natural sciences. The college presently houses the departments of computer science, design, environmental science, and global media and communication.

College of Engineering

The College of Engineering provides students with a thorough grounding in mathematics and the physical sciences.

College of Business

The College of Business seeks to find and nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs, financial advisers, and economic strategists. The college presently houses the departments of finance, management, and marketing.

College of International Studies

In the College of International Studies, future leaders, diplomats, and policymakers examine the historical, political, economic, and ideological factors informing international policy.

College of Nursing

Inspired by its mission of serving the local and regional community; the American University of Kurdistan has embarked on the opening of the College of Nursing to cater for the needs of the health service in the region and beyond.
